Thanks to Maggie Montiel for entrusting Justine & I to take on this project, and was great to work with dancer Chloe Noelle Crade again, who I met through the Nat Geo Movement project a couple years ago.
With this color driven project I wanted to showcase Montiel’s versatility in their color choices and styles, while also featuring a strong woman of color, embracing different sides of her through movement. In the concepting of this project, I had written: ”Her point of view comes from a half-Japanese, half-Irish background, and her dancing background spans from ballet, modern, to traditional Chinese, and she also works as a fitness model - bonus points. She has several sides to her - hard and soft, and it’d be great to embrace them in unique ways; as an active woman, she’s easy to relate to.“ I hope I’ve achieved this.
Also, my dear friend Eugene composed the music for this, it was really fun to create a youthful dance track with him.
Super excited to announce that I am 1 of 8 wonderful women accepted into the AFI Directing Workshop for Women this year! So many amazing female directors I’ve looked up to have been part of this program, so it really feels like the right step.
My short film “What I Wish You Said” has been featured on Ladies With Lenses, an amazing channel curated by Vimeo Staff Pick member Meghan Oretsky. Fitting, because we made this film with primarily women and yes, it is a lady’s story.
Thanks to Meghan for the curation and check out my short + other films made by cool women!
BTS video from Anna Shoemaker’s music video shoot released yesterday - takes me back to a great day with a super fun cast and crew.
Who doesn’t want to re-live a day with lots of roller skates over uneven floors, moody lights, sparkly props and a Steve Madden / Betsey Johnson accessorized wardrobe? Thanks again to Amalia Bradstreet, John Schmidt, and 5Towns Records.
And just for the record, I think Anna is an incredible singer!!
“What I Wish You Said” will be screening at the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival - Thursday November 15 at 9pm. I won’t be in town for this one, but Amalia Bradstreet (Producer) and Maxwell Korn (Actor) will be representing the film during the Q&A. Tickets can be bought here.
“What I Wish You Said” has been selected to screen at Nitehawk Shorts Festival on November 10! Tickets available to public on Tuesday 10/9 at noon.
The times today couldn’t reflect enough on our need to truly listen to women’s stories. Here’s my way of exploring why victims of sexual assault struggle to tell their tales in our current culture. Shot last year in December on the first snowfall of the season. Thank you to Nitehawk and the cast and crew for making this short film a piece I’m truly proud of.
Presenting REALnew, a female-driven collective Justine Sweetman and I have been building for almost a year now. Our mission is to create opportunities for women in front of and behind the lens and bring visibility to mindful brands.
Thank you so much to SHOOT Magazine & Roberta Griefer for last night’s amazing event! Proud to be part of the Class of 2018, and had an amazing time meeting everyone at both the DGA & The Mill.
The trailer for “What I Wish You Said”, my short film, debuted for the first time, and it was nice to see it on a big screen! Also great that the team from the film came also - thank you Matt D’Amato at Valiant Pictures, Amalia Bradstreet the amazing Producer, Fletcher Wolfe the brilliant DP, and Ian Kammer (a SHOOTNDS alumni from 2013!).
Also check out my new NDS profile, in which I ramble about some of the directors I admire and my journey as a director thus far.
